Canada has a generous Immigration policy that allows the family member of the International student to come to Canada to study or work.

Overview

The Canadian government changed study permits in 2014 to allow international students to work. Study permits let students work 20 hours per week during school hours and full-time during breaks.

Work off Campus

Eligibility requirements to work off-campus

International students who no longer match the above eligibility standards must discontinue working off-campus.

International students who no longer match the above eligibility standards must discontinue working off-campus.

The following are requirements to work off campus while studying:


(1) Need a valid study permission and Social (2) Insurance Number (SIN).

(3) Full-time Student at a Designated Learning Institute

(4) Must be in a 6-month or longer programme leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate.

(5) Have started studying and maintained satisfactory academic standings as determined by their university.


International students who no longer match the above eligibility standards must discontinue working off-campus.

International students who have not met the following requirements can work off-campus if they have been registered as full-time students since the start of their studies.


Studying part-time because it's their last semester and they don't need to attend full-time.

Off-campus work is not allowed for these international students:


(1) Students in ESL or FSL programmes

(2) Students in general interest classes

(3) Exchange or visiting students in a recognized school.

The following are the requirements to work on campus while studying:


(1) With a valid study permit

(2) Have an SSN

(3) Must be full-time post-secondary student.

(4) Private Canadian university with provincial degree recognition

(5) Quebec public colleges and universities

(6) Private college that operates under public norms and receives at least half of its funding from the Quebec government.
