Due to COVID-19, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) permitted international students to study online at Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) and still be eligible for PGWP if they meet all the requirements.


International students who study online from overseas or who submitted the study permission before 31 Au

Due to COVID-19, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) permitted international students to study online at Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) and still be eligible for PGWP if they meet all the requirements.


International students who study online from overseas or who submitted the study permission before 31 August 2022 can finish 100% of their programme online without impacting their PGWP eligibility.

A PGWP can last 8 months to 3 years, depending on the DLI programme you choose. Guidelines on the IRCC website on PGWP eligibility and validity state that those who finished the programme within 8 months are not eligible.

If you finish the programme in 8 months to 2 years, your PGWP will last the same time.

Those who completed multiple DLI-

A PGWP can last 8 months to 3 years, depending on the DLI programme you choose. Guidelines on the IRCC website on PGWP eligibility and validity state that those who finished the programme within 8 months are not eligible.

If you finish the programme in 8 months to 2 years, your PGWP will last the same time.

Those who completed multiple DLI-eligible 8-month programmes can combine their Canadian education.

Within 180 days of study programme completion, PGWP applications are due. An applicant from within the country must have a valid study permission. If their study permission expires, they can seek for guest status before applying for a PGWP. Applicants who applied before the study visa expired can work full-time while their application is processed.

(1) You must be 18 and have finished an 8-month full-time course.

(2) Study must be completed at a Canadian DLI.

(3) Study programmes must result in degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

(4) Received a transcript and formal letter from an eligible DLI verifying applicant meets all study programme requirements.

(5) Graduated from a public colleg

(1) You must be 18 and have finished an 8-month full-time course.

(2) Study must be completed at a Canadian DLI.

(3) Study programmes must result in degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

(4) Received a transcript and formal letter from an eligible DLI verifying applicant meets all study programme requirements.

(5) Graduated from a public college, tech/technical school, university, or Quebec CEGEP.

Or

Private post-secondary school with public school rules

Or

Private Canadian institutions can only offer degrees to students enrolled in authorised study programmes under provincial rules.
