Canadian Immigration And Work Permit For Caregivers

Carers are crucial to Canada's economy and society. Due to its ageing population and low birth rate, Canada offers carers many immigration and work visa options.

Home child care provider pilot and Home Support Worker pilot

Qualifying work experience

The applicant's Canadian employment experience will be evaluated after evidence of eligibility. All applicants must have had temporary residence status and a work permit during their Canadian employment experience. Only authorized work counts towards work experience.


Candidates must have worked in an appropriate NOC occupation to qualify:


(1) Childcare at home Pilot applicants must have worked in home child care.

(2) Home Helper Pilot applicants must have home support or equivalent experience.

Education

The applicant must prove either:


(1) A Canadian 1-year or greater post-secondary degree

(2) A foreign educational credential equivalent to the aforementioned and an immigration-related ECA report

Language Level

The applicant must demonstrate level 5 language proficiency in English or French in the Canadian Language Benchmarks or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens for all four language skills:


Reading, writing, speaking, and listening

Home child care provider pilot and Home Support Worker pilot

You may be qualified for a work permit if you apply to a pilot and live in Canada. The work permit rules are:

Open Work Permits for Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot candidates

These requirements must be satisfied for an open work permit:


(1) Live in Canada and want to live somewhere other than Quebec

(2) Have a valid work permit or be eligible for reinstatement and have held one before losing status.

(3) Have gotten a good permanent residency eligibility decision after 24 months of relevant work experience

In-Home Carers Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) Stream

The TFWP helps Canadian firms hire foreigners to fill skill gaps. An LMIA is required to prove that a Canadian citizen or permanent resident could not fill the position before hiring a foreign national through TFWP.
